District 2 Commissioner
Henry County Board of Commissioners
Brian’s background in public accounting and recognition in the financial industry provide a unique combination of analytical skill with a down to earth communication style. In 1996, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in Accounting, and then in 1999 completed the CFP Professional Education Program from The College for Financial Planning. Brian has continued his education by completing three leadership programs offered by The Coverdell Leadership Institute (2002), The Georgia Society of CPAs Leadership Academy (2005), and Leadership Henry (2008).
Much of Brian’s analytical skill comes from his education and the designations he has earned as an accountant and wealth manager. Brian’s designations include Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), and Personal Financial Specialist (PFS). This rare combination of designations allows Brian to handle a broad range of client issues and circumstances.
Brian’s financial career began with a large regional CPA firm in Marietta, GA where he helped develop and implement a financial services division. This led to Brian’s next career endeavor with one of the largest fee-only financial planning and investment advisory firms in the Southeast. During his time at this firm, Brian co-managed over $67 million and provided comprehensive planning to CEOs of major corporations, professional athletes, and clients with net investable assets over $1,000,000.
Brian founded Preston Financial in 2002, and in 2003 the firm was recognized as a leader in the fee-only marketplace, making the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Book of Lists.
Brian has also been recognized in the financial press. In 2005, Brian was featured on the cover of Henry Magazine as one of the up and coming business leaders in Henry County. Brian has written financial columns for the Daily Herald and Henry Magazine, and his advice has been featured in Newsweek, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine, Bankrate.com and Medical Economics. Brian is also the host for the Money-Guy Show, an Internet Podcast and Blog that has been featured in Bank Technology News, The Journal for Financial Planning, NAPFA Advisor Magazine, Registered Rep Magazine, and has maintained a spot on iTunes™ top 25 list of Investing Podcasts. Brian has also been profiled by Clark Howard on WSB-TV and a featured commentator on the Fox Business Network providing insight into the world of investing and money management.
Brian’s memberships include the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Personal Financial Planning Division, the Georgia Society of CPAs, and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
Being the son of an educator, Brian understands the power of education, and he has always enjoyed teaching and helping others. His passion for education has led him to guest lecture at the University of Georgia, as well as speak to the Student Financial Planning Association. In addition, Brian served the citizens of Henry County as the Chairman of the Henry County Board of Education, the seventh largest school system in the state of Georgia from 2005-2012.
Outside of the office Brian enjoys time with his wife, two daughters, and their pug, Winston. Brian and his family also enjoy going to University of Georgia football games, traveling, and the occasional round of golf.
