Henry County is accepting applications for the position of Certified Police Officer in the Henry County Police Department. This position enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators. Listed are some of the essential duties and responsibilities: They shall enforce all statutes, laws, ordinances, regulations and procedures of Department; maintains law and order, protects life and property and performing related assignments. Applicant shall become familiar with State Traffic Codes, Criminal Procedure Codes & Ordinances. Patrols assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, in patrol car, to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and complaints. Answers radio-dispatched or citizens’ request for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances. Qualifications are valid Georgia driver’s licenses; must submit a three (3) year Motor Vehicle Report at time of interview; completion of police training and education as required by Georgia Law; Good moral character; Honorable discharge ONLY for persons with military service; No felony or domestic violence convictions and must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of police officer.

Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor

This position is a grant funded position, renewable annually. The incumbent will perform as Henry County Adult Felony Drug Court Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor. This position is responsible for assessing and providing treatment to individuals with substance abuse difficulties, including abuse of alcohol or other drugs. The positions role is to help participants of the Henry County Drug Court Program by equipping them with the skills or mechanics to deal with their addiction through individual and/or group counseling sessions. The duties associated with this position typically involve conducting assessments on participants to determine DSM diagnosis/diagnostic impressions, severity of substance abuse, treatment intensity, placement of services and ancillary needs; identifying and evaluating  participants strengths, weaknesses, problems, and needs for the development of a treatment plan; conduct group, individual and family supportive counseling sessions utilizing multisystem therapies; provide crisis intervention in response to alcohol and/or other drug abuse needs during acute emotional and/or physical distress; provide education to participants and families on substance abuse issues; arrange for provision of services from community resources based on participant treatment plans; assist in the collection of urine samples and chain of custody for drug testing; maintain appropriate documentation necessary for statistical reports, evaluations, legal documents etc.; provides status reports for the  presiding judge and actively participates in Status Reviews; attends court hearings and makes recommendations; performs other related work as required.

Educational Requirements include Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science such as Psychology or Substance Abuse Counseling one (1) year of experience providing behavioral health services to participants with substance abuse and/or substance dependency diagnosis; Certification Addiction Counselor II (CAC II) is required; possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license; ability to work with flexibility to accommodate day, evening and weekend hours; knowledge of principles, procedures, and methods for rehabilitation of mental and physical dysfunction; must acquire a working knowledge of the Connexis required data tools; ability to apply statutory requirements and to understand and comply with State and Federal confidentiality laws concerning medical and substance abuse treatment.

Attorney I

 This position is responsible for representing defendants who qualify and who have been criminally charged with a felony offense in the Flint Circuit, Judicial District in Georgia.  Essential duties include: Interviewing clients; contacts arresting officer to discuss his/her arrest, findings and what evidence against the client;  conducts a preliminary hearing to determine further information from police officer and/or witnesses; negotiates bonds; attends all court proceedings, motions, and arraignments.    Incumbent will gather and prepare legal documents, reports or other evidence for trail; prepare cross examination for all probable State witnesses; impanel Jury, make appropriate motions and objections, conduct opening and closing statements, cross examinations of State’s witnesses, submit evidence etc.  Qualifications include: Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in the State of Georgia; two (2) years experience in handling criminal cases.  Certifications require to hold position: Active Georgia Bar License.
