Henry County is accepting applications for the position of Certified Police Officer in the Henry County Police Department. This position enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators. Listed are some of the essential duties and responsibilities: They shall enforce all statutes, laws, ordinances, regulations and procedures of Department; maintains law and order, protects life and property and performing related assignments. Applicant shall become familiar with State Traffic Codes, Criminal Procedure Codes & Ordinances. Patrols assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, in patrol car, to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and complaints. Answers radio-dispatched or citizens’ request for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances. Qualifications are valid Georgia driver’s licenses; must submit a three (3) year Motor Vehicle Report at time of interview; completion of police training and education as required by Georgia Law; Good moral character; Honorable discharge ONLY for persons with military service; No felony or domestic violence convictions and must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of police officer.

GIS Storm Water Inspector

Henry County is accepting applications for the GIS Storm water Inspector in the Storm water department. This position is responsible for the collection of survey and GIS grade data as part of the Storm water inventory program both inside and outside the right of way in Henry County. This position will manage and direct a survey crew, perform skilled technical survey work which requires familiarity with engineering specifications, construction standards and department procedures as they relate to assigned duties. Work typically involves supervising the operations of all types of survey equipment, including electronic total station with data collector, automatic level instrument and other survey tools; working in the field to establish control points, boundaries, construction staking and topography; supervising and performing data collection for drainage infrastructure located both within and outside Henry County Right of Way; photo documentation of condition of Storm water infrastructure and assigns numeric grade following the Federal High way Administration rating system; records data using both a standard collector and/or a GIS tablet database; inspects surveying and construction work on county Storm water management projects to ensure compliance with applicable engineering specifications and approved construction plans; performs related duties as required.

Educational requirements include High School diploma or GED equivalent, but preference given to candidates with additional higher education in the area of engineering, surveying or related field; supplemented by five years of experience in engineering, surveying or a related field with at least one year serving as a party chief; possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Some of the knowledge and skills required of this position includes: Knowledge of land surveying, construction layout/staking and related tools/materials; ability to interpret and survey traffic or road construction data gathered in the field; working knowledge of topographic and highway surveying; ability to coordinate project work with department staff and others as required.

Equipment Operator II

Henry County is accepting applications for the Equipment Operator II position in the Storm water department. The work of this position involves the operation of moderately heavy equipment such as a tandem axle dump truck, a skid steer, backhoe or other moderately complex equipment on a construction crew. The duties associated with this position typically involve: driving a tandem axle dump truck on a regular basis to deliver storm water and road maintenance materials to all department crews; load gravel at quarry and signs invoices for all purchases; operate a variety of moderately heavy equipment such as a bull dozer, front-end loader or backhoe; performs general laborer work such as shoveling materials, building bridges, storm drains or culverts; coordinates with foreman on scheduling assigned truck for maintenance and repair work; serves as flagger on assigned projects; operates an air compressor, jack hammer and other power tools; performs daily servicing of assigned vehicles or equipment such as cleaning and checking fluid levels; performs related work as required.   

Educational requirements include High School Diploma or GED equivalent; two years of experience in light grading, pipe/channel installation and/or pond maintenance is required; possession of a valid Georgia Commercial Class B Driver’s License. Any combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge and skills required of this position includes: Knowledge of effective hydrologic maintenance and construction procedures and work methods of the department; knowledge of the operation and servicing techniques of storm water equipment; skill in the operation and application of hand and power tools; skill in performing heavy manual labor; skill in interpreting detailed instructions and carrying them out with minimal instruction; skill in safely and proficiently driving and operating assigned equipment and vehicles; skill in working well as a member of a crew.
