Henry County is accepting applications for the position of Certified Police Officer in the Henry County Police Department. This position enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators. Listed are some of the essential duties and responsibilities: They shall enforce all statutes, laws, ordinances, regulations and procedures of Department; maintains law and order, protects life and property and performing related assignments. Applicant shall become familiar with State Traffic Codes, Criminal Procedure Codes & Ordinances. Patrols assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, in patrol car, to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and complaints. Answers radio-dispatched or citizens’ request for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances. Qualifications are valid Georgia driver’s licenses; must submit a three (3) year Motor Vehicle Report at time of interview; completion of police training and education as required by Georgia Law; Good moral character; Honorable discharge ONLY for persons with military service; No felony or domestic violence convictions and must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of police officer.

Lead Equipment Operator- Paving

Henry County is accepting applications for the position of Lead Equipment Operator in the Department of Transportation. This position is responsible for assigning, directing and inspecting crew members work in the departments paving crew to ensure that required work is completed based on construction specifications, plans and supervisory directives in the absence of a foreman. The duties associated with this position typically involves: coordinating the traffic control, trucking, spreading and rolling on paving projects to ensure that proper safety and paving techniques are followed; coordinates with the grading crew on the preparation of sub-base and base surfaces for paving; works with foreman to determine the most efficient way to complete projects; operates asphalt spreader, vibratory rollers and other equipment used on paving projects as required; performs related duties as required.

Educational requirements include High School diploma or GED equivalent. Experience as an Equipment Operator lll on a paving crew or experience as a Lead Operator in related work is required along with possession of a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License. Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Knowledge and skills required of this position includes: Knowledge of department standard operating procedures in terms of work methods and safety rules; knowledge of the procedures, methods, materials, equipment and tools used in resurfacing and paving roads; skill in proficiently operating a variety of paving related equipment; skill in the directing of a large group of workers to complete projects based on directives and established procedures; skill in oral and written communications; skill in providing instructions and training crew members in new work methods.

Equipment Operator l

Henry County is accepting applications for the Equipment Operator I position in the Department of Transportation. This position is responsible for operating a variety of light equipment and vehicles. Incumbent will also perform manual labor on a paving, construction, or maintenance crew. This position may require heavy equipment to be driven on an assignment or temporary basis. The duties associated with this position typically involves operating landscape and maintenance equipment such as a tractor with a bush hog or landscape box attachment and an A-Boom tractor; drives a small dump truck, pick-up truck, or a flat-bed truck to deliver materials or tools to job sites; operates light construction or maintenance equipment such as a small wheel roller or a power broom; performs manual labor such as shoveling asphalt and dirt, laying pipes, building culverts and bridges; serves as member of an emergency crew in response to storm damages and other emergencies; performs related duties as required.

Educational requirements include High School diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of experience in performing related work. Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license or a valid Georgia CDL as required based on the weight and function of assigned vehicle. Knowledge and skills required for this position includes: knowledge of the operation and maintenance techniques to public works equipment; skill in the operation and application of hand and power tools; skill in performing heavy manual labor; ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions; ability to drive and operate assigned equipment and vehicles effectively. Equipment Operator II

This position is responsible for operating moderately heavy equipment such as a tandem axle dump truck, paving roller, backhoe or other moderately complex equipment on a paving or construction crew. The duties associated with this position typically involves operating a variety of moderately heavy equipment such as rubber tire roller, vibratory roller, bull dozer, front-end loader or backhoe; drives a tandem axle dump truck or roll off truck on a regular basis to deliver paving and road maintenance materials to all department crews; coordinates with foreman on scheduling assigned truck for maintenance and repair work; serves as flagger on assigned projects; performs general laborer work such as shoveling materials, building bridges, storm drains or culverts; performs daily servicing of assigned vehicles or equipment such as cleaning and checking fluid levels; performs related duties as required.  

Educational requirements include High Diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of experience in light grading, setting forms and finishing concrete is required along with possession of a valid Georgia CDL. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge and skills required of this position includes: Knowledge of road maintenance, construction procedures and work methods of the department; knowledge of the operation and servicing techniques of public works equipment; skill in the operation and application of hand and power tools; skill in performing heavy manual labor; skill in interpreting detailed instructions with the ability to effectively carry out those duties; skill in safely and proficiently driving and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
